“Sophie T. Lvoff’s photo series, Dream Code, joins Ben Saint-Maxent’s direct reference to communication, whether atsea or on land, a code to build, share and transfer. A morse code of shapes and obsolete moments, rooted in different locations, sketching a trade route. Lvoff’s ongoing series Dream Code is here physically rendered for the first time since its inception, the frames have been themselves wrapped in ribbons onto which a text is partially hidden, sometimes showing at the whim of a fold. Those are messages, maybe love letters, notes written for someone to read them, not unlike a bottle thrown into the sea, maybe, maybe not. Many narratives can be derived and taken from the individual photographs, representing scenes in passing or details that would otherwise be ignored. Each work playing its role into the conception of the code, forming a language at large.”
